Introducing: MESS

Welcome To M.E.S.S.

Inspired by the Imperial Service Organization, or ISO, some of the Rebel Girls decided we wanted to create a women's social club of our own.

The ISO draws their inspiration from the USO girls of WWII. The ISO supports the 501st Stormtrooper Legion. They are the established government.

We are the Rebels. There is no government support for our troops. For us, the front line is everywhere. As the spies and dissidents, we fight for our survival.

Mos Eisley Scum Support is inspired by the "Camp Followers" of the American Revolutionary War. These incredible patriots followed the army from camp to camp. They helped maintain morale and worked as nurses as well as cooking, cleaning and sewing for the soldiers.

In addition to the 'traditional' women's work, many women fought alongside the men. Some, like former school teacher Deborah Sampson, pretended to be men in order to fight. Others, like Margaret Cochran Corbin, fought alongside male family members to defend their homes. Still others were like Sybil Lundington, who rode some 40 miles in the rain, letting the militia know of a British attack.

These are the women we wish to emulate. Those who were useful and brave in the war for freedom.

What is MESS?

We are a social group formed for the female members and friends of the Mos Eisley Base of the Rebel Legion. We enjoy each other's company and the company of the Base members.

We Are Prepared
When buttons pop and stitches break, we will be there. There are many things that can go screwy with a costuming organization like the Rebel Legion. MESS keeps a supply of safety pins, batteries and extra ponytail holders on hand as well as a plethora of other odds and ends to help events run smoothly.

We Are Available
Because sometimes you don't want to walk in to Basha's in a Jedi Robe. MESS girls can pick-up lunch, make a run for lightsaber batteries and other activities that are difficult in costume.

We Are Flexible
Rebel pilots can't bend over when they drop things. Jedi can't straighten their own tabbards. Sometimes droids get stuck. With minimal layers and no trains dragging on the ground, we can do a lot of things costumed people just can't.

We Are Friendly
Someone dressed in full costume can be very scary to small children. A friendly face in reasonably normal clothes can help make costumed characters more approachable. When people have questions about the Rebel Legion, a charity or Star Wars in general, MESS can help answer questions so that Princess Leia can keep posing for pictures.

We Are Fun
We love to be together. MESS girls add fun to any event. We bring energy and laughter to each other, to the Base and even to our friends at the 501st.

Friends and Foes

In the fictional world of Star Wars the opposing forces are the 'good guys' of the Rebel Alliance versus the 'bad guys' of the Galactic Empire. The Rebels fight for freedom and equality. The Empire is xenophobic and sexist and fight for control of the galaxy. The Star Wars galaxy is classic and epic and, once again, fictional.

While MESS is affiliated with The Rebel Legion, which is a costuming organization representing the 'good guys' of Star Wars, we are also closely associated with the 501st and the ISO.
While they represent the Star Wars 'bad guys', our friends at the 501st do a lot of good.

Both the members of the Rebel Legion and the members of the 501st spend time, energy and resources supporting charity groups. They raise money for hospitals, medical research and many other great causes.

We, in Arizona, are especially lucky. The Dune Sea Garrison of the 501st and the Mos Eisley Base of the Rebel Legion are on very good terms. The two groups work together frequently and socialize together whenever possible. Many Mos Eisley Base members are also Dune Sea Members.

In Arizona, the light and the dark unite as a force of good.

MESS at Relay for Life

MESS was officially introduced to the world 4-4-09 at the East Mesa Relay for Life. We helped with the Star Wars Legions team booth and hosted a dance lap from 11PM to 12PM.
